Burning Permits
1. Property owners
must obtain a NH Division of Forest & Lands Burning Permit.
- Only property owners are authorized
to obtain a permit.
- A tenant or friend may obtain a
permit only with written permission of the land owner.
- The Fire Department maintains an
extensive file of owner authorized permission to burn.
2. There are several types of permits
available:
- Category I - cooking fire no greater than 2' in diameter
- Category II- cooking fire no greater than 4' in diameter
- Category III A fire other than Category I or II that is
greater than 4' in diameter, not contained within a ring or resistive
material.
- Daily and seasonal permits are available for Category I
and II fires.
- Only daily permits are available for Category III
- The Fire Department generally inspects all fire permit
sites on the day the permit is issued. There are site requirements for
distances to buildings, size of material being burned and type of material
being burned. Check with the Fire Department for specific regulations.
3. Any person firm or corporation
causing or kindling a fire without a permit, when a permit is required, and
also any person by whose negligence or the negligence of his agents any fire
shall be caused, is liable to the town for all expenses incurred in attending or
extinguishing such a fire.
4. Permits can
be obtain at the Fire Station, 85 Lake Street between the hours of 8:00am and
5:00pm.
