Bristol Old Home Day

January 7, 2008

Meeting Minutes

Present:  Elizabeth Corrow, Chief John Clark, Barbara Greenwood, Stefanie Phillips, Leslie Dion, Claire Moorhead

Claire has been working on updating our Timeline and To Do list for 2008.  It is important that we get a marching band early.  She has contacted two but they are not available on that date.  Les has a contact for the 39th Army Band and will get this info to Elizabeth.  In the timeline that Claire has put together she will work a total of 165 hours on Old Home Day.  She would have other hours working on the concerts and with downtown businesses.  Elizabeth has presented this proposal to the Selectboard and they are favorable but it will need to go to the Budget Committee next.  She will not know for sure until Town Meeting as to whether it passes.  Claire will keep her time to a minimum until then.  We need to come up with a theme ASAP and incorporate it into the tee shirt fundraiser if we decide to do them.

Elizabeth explained that the Town is looking at doing a Summer Concert Series in the Park.  She is hopeful that this committee would be able to work on a number of town events and not just be the ‘Old Home Day’ committee.

There was discussion on the concert series.  It was agreed that a Thursday evening would be best.

Stefanie will look into the trolley.  Les agreed to chair the committee.

We had discussed naming a Citizen of the Year and having them be the Marshal in the parade.  It was suggested that the Town Report could then be dedicated to them.  Since the Selectboard has chosen someone for this years town report it was agreed that they would be the Citizen of the Year for this year and we would set up a criteria and nomination process for the 2009 person.  We will put a box out at Old Home Day to take nominations.

It was suggested that we use the tents during the day as they are expensive to rent and we should get the most bang for our buck…  It was agreed that we would ask the Fire Department (since Norm is not here) to do Bingo during the day.  We will also ask them to set up an area with a sprinkler activity so that the kids (and adults) can get wet if it is hot.

The Town will not be sending its employees to the Lobster Chicken Dinner this year.  We discussed doing at least two seatings and beginning the dinner earlier to ensure continuous activities throughout the day.

We will meet again in February.  Claire will send out info on what other towns do for Citizen of the Year.
