Bristol Old Home Day

March 20, 2007

Meeting Minutes

Present:  Barbara Greenwood, Joe Denning, Sue Marchand, Leslie Dion

Volunteers:  We had a good group of volunteers last year.  They included the National Honor Society, Bristol Lion’s Club, J. Jill Group and TTCC helpers.  Joe said that the Lion’s group will be even bigger this year.  It was suggested that we do job descriptions for each persons duties to make it easier for them to know what they need to do.  At dinner we discussed thanking all volunteers publicly and doing certificates.

ACTION ITEMS:

Advertising:  Sue will take care of the advertising again this year.  She did a great job last year and wants to do even more ads this year.

Parade:  Barb suggested having Elizabeth Corrow be the Grand Marshall.  She suggests asking Larry Cate to drive her in his car.  We need a group that will take on the management of the parade.  Barb has info from the Muchachos about being in the parade.  They cost $1,000 and bring music and movement.  It was agreed that this would be a great addition to the parade.  Barb will follow up with them and see if they could do a performance on the park following.  It was discussed to see if Bruce Van Derven would be willing to do his raffle for the Old Home Day events.  He might even be willing to chair the Parade committee.  Les said that the businesses bought in to the raffle before because of the fireworks.  Joe said maybe we should do the fireworks on the park at Old Home Day.  A theme of ‘Celebrating Our Community’s History’ was put forth.

Activities:  The parking on the park will be different this year as we cannot use the softball field side of the park at all.  Joe asked if we would be interested in doing some of the activities off site such as the auction.  Les suggested having the Auction at the TTCC.  Joe will follow up on the auction.

We had booked the Climbing Wall for this year as well.  Les will follow up with them on times.  She will contact the National Guard again as well.  She will also ask if they can participate in the parade with a band or drill team.  Les will contact Remax about the balloon.  Beth and Donna had suggested having segways for people to try.  Les will have her check on this.

Joe said that Jim Webster did the evening entertainment last year and is willing to do it again.

Ponies: - Joe will check with Marla

Horseshoes – Less will check with Gary regarding new site or use of old one.

Historical Society – Barb suggests they focus on Alumni

TTCC Float – include history of TTCC – put Tag Day Buckets out like Wink used to do.

Touch a Truck – This event could be held at BES.  Great way to promote local business.  Sue will follow up.

Other suggestions:

Kids Games:  Beth and Donna Quinn are interested in doing this again this year.

Lobster Supper:  The Town will be inviting their employees to the Lobster & Chicken Supper again this year.

Craft Fair:  The application was reviewed and it was agreed to have a $25/space fee so that people would make the commitment to come if they sign up.  This will also help offset costs.   A date of August 3rd was set for these to be returned.  Les will get these out ASAP.
