New Business
The committee discussed the Workers Compensation claims previously filed. Mark briefed the committee on an injury an employee received when he got metal in his eye while using a piece of equipment. The employee was wearing safety glasses, so there are no recommendations from the committee. Members of the committee were told that our insurance carrier is no longer Primex we are now covered by the Local Government Center, so the forms have changed. Norm discussed another claim which ended up only being a case of miscommunication. This situation was in reference to a possible exposure to a contagious illness. Norm indicated that we can work with the hospital on any of these types of issues when there is the possibility of exposure after a patient transport. A lengthy discussion followed on Hep. B, TB and rabies shots. It is the committee’s recommendation that employees be given the vaccination. Norm indicated that this already takes place for the Fire Department employees and that he can make arrangements for the other town employees. The committee recommended that each department head create a list of the needed vaccinations and submit them to Gylene and she will create a master list for Norm and he will find out the cost. Discussion followed on the flu shot.
Chief Clark asked for some clarification on the previous minute’s reference to the flashing lights email that Mark B. received from Dennis Ford. Mark B. explained the law that will be going in to effect in probably 2009 reference to non-emergency vehicles.
John briefed the committee on some issues involving snowmobiles riding on West Shore Road. The town needs to have a dialog with the State reference to snowmobiles driving down the roadway. The committee will support Chief Clark reference to this matter as it is a safety issue.
The committee discussed future site inspections. It was the feeling of the committee that all buildings have been inspected and that we should devise a plan on proceeding with inspections at the next meeting. Jeff indicated that we should visit the Fowler River Site, but not at the next meeting, due to the weather. Discussion followed on the Historical Society and the safety issues surrounding that location. Discussion followed on fire hydrants.
The committee deferred discussion on the 2008 budget until after the budget is passed and Elizabeth is present.
