~Meeting was called to order at 9:05 am. Old business was reviewed. Discussed were the trainings that had been completed thus far. CERT training (8hrs) through volunteer NH has been completed. The next training will be NIMS on April 26th from 8:30- 12:00. On May 3rd from 8:30-12:00 there will be IS 100. May 31st will be the date for CPR and First Aid training.
Upon completion of all those trainings and necessary paperwork the CERT team will be ready for deployment when needed. Possible dates of “activation” include; June 7th Mooseman and May 17th drill with Jim R. in Franklin.
~Donna and Samantha Brann (Lakes Region Public Health) shared a PowerPoint presentation on volunteer management and possible funding sources for new grants. Volunteer NH has said that all subsequent funding will be offered to existing CERTS only—no new CERTS will be funded. Knowing that funding will be tight Donna and Samantha are proposing collaboration between the Laconia CERT and the Bristol CERT. The possible collaboration would still allow for individual CERTS to work independently, but also to have connected activities also. The communities are connected by LRGH and Lakes Region Mutual Aid, and many individual who live in one of the communities work in another. The grants could allow for continued funding for Samantha’s position of 32 hours (which is currently reviewed every 6 months) a week and additional funding for more hours for a coordinator for the Bristol CERT. Donna stated that 10 hours a week is not enough time to meet all the responsibilities for CERT—especially as it grows. If the grants would allow for funding for 2-5 years then the CERT could be strengthened and capacity could be increased. Possible funding sources for grants: FEMA, Grant.gov, Gates Foundation, and FSB. Donna and Samantha will continue to explore those possibilities.
~ A motion was made (by Norm) for to have Donna and Samantha begin searching for and writing grants for CERT. The motion was seconded by John. The council agreed unanimously.
10:05 am ~ Meeting was adjourned.
NEXT MEETING IS ON MAY 20th at 9:00 am.
