MINUTES FROM NOVEMBER 11, 2008
BOARD OF TRUSTEES’ MEETING
MINOT SLEEPER LIBRARY
PRESENT: Roger Nichols, Chair; Nancy Gavalis, George Corrette, Treasurer; Wendy Costigan, Secretary; Deborah Gilbert, Librarian; Barbara Greenwood, Deborah Doe, William Barrett.
ABSENT: Shirley Yorks and Glenn Dorr.
SECRETARY’S REPORT: The minutes from the October meeting were reviewed by all those present. Barbara Greenwood made a motion to accept the minutes. Nancy Gavalis seconded and the motion passed as all were in favor.
TREASURER’S REPORT: George Corrette reported the balances as follows:
· Stock portfolio -holding around $100,000 ( there has been a 20%-30% decline in value)
· Investment pool - stable around $86,000 (making 2.5% annually and paid monthly)
· Checking - $11,800
William Barrett made a motion to accept the treasurer’s report. Deborah Doe seconded and the motion passed as all were in favor.
LIBRARIAN’S REPORT: Deborah Gilbert reported the following:
· Mike McKinley is leading a presentation on Thursday about Luther Ladd
· Michael Yorks suggested that NH public libraries have a food drive for local food banks. During November a drop off for non-perishable foods will be at the library and will be donated to the Bristol Community Services food bank.
· Leftover refreshments from the Emily Wingate benefit supper were donated to the library to use at presentations. A donation of $100 will be given to the Emily Wingate fund from the trustees of the library.
· Painting is done
· Slate roof repairs are done
· Deborah is meeting next Tuesday with Michelle at the town office to look at applying for the Brownsfield grant
· There is a meeting next week to discuss ideas for the downtown Christmas activities
· Thanksgiving hours- close Wednesday at 5pm, closed Thursday and Friday, reopen on Saturday regular hours
· Claire Moorhead is compiling a calendar of town events for next year
· 500 plus trick or treaters came to the library on Halloween- pictures were place on the blog space
· Brown bag auction raised $1926
· A grant for Children’s books was approved
CORRESPONDENCE: None
OLD BUSINESS:
· The library goes before the budget committee on Monday November 17th at 7pm at the town offices to present the 2009 budget
· The 2009 budget is $110,369.04 which represents an increase of $6755 or a 6.52% over 2008
· Barbara Greenwood made a motion to approve the draft of the 2009 budget. William Barrett seconded and the motion carried as all were in favor.
NEW BUSINESS:
· Deborah Doe has information on the LCHIP grant. In order to apply for this grant a trustee needs to attend the LCHIP training seminar in December. This is a significant grant that could potentially provide up to 50% of the restoration costs of the historical portion of the building project.
· The library is holding a cookie buffet in December. Cookies are bought by the pound and leftovers will be sent to shut ins and nursing homes. The money raised will go to the building fund. The hours are December 5th from 3-6pm and December 6th from 9am-12pm.
· The library is decorating for the holidays with white lights decorating a tree out front and around the front porch.
· No December meeting of the trustees

George Corrette made a motion to adjourn the meeting and William Barrett seconded. The motion carried as all were in favor.
